Mohanthal, The name comes from one of Krishna's alternative names 'Mohan' meaning charming and enchanting and 'thal' meaning dish (like thali), Sweet loved by Lord Krishna. Mohanthal is a traditional Gujarati sweet dish, also cooked in Rajasthan.

Coarse Lentil Flour: 300gm | |
Sugar: 350gm | |
Milk: 5 Tablespoon | |
Ghee: 12 Tablespoon | |
Edible Colour (orange/yellow): 1/4 Teaspoon | |
Cardamom Powder: 8-10 Cloves | |
Charoli / Chiraunji (for Garnishing): 1/2 Tablespoon | |
Grated Almonds: 6-8 | |
Grated Pistachio: 6-8 |
Step 1: Mix Lentil flour, milk and 5 tablespoon ghee in a broad vessel thoroughly.
Step 2: Add weight to the dough to press it in order to remove excess air.
Step 3: Sift the flour mixture.
Step 4: Heat ghee in a vessel on low flame. Add sifted flour to it and stir well till it turns light pink in colour.
Step 5: Shift the mixture in another vessel.
Step 6: Take a vessel and add sugar to it. Add water till the sugar is completely submerged. Heat it on low flame till sugar syrup is prepared of 1 to 1.5 string consistency.
Step 7: Add edible colo...ur and cardamom powder to the sugar syrup. Add lentil flour mixture to it and stir in a round manner to mix all the ingredients well.
Step 8: Grease a plate with ghee or oil and spread the mixture evenly on it.
Step 9: Let it rest for sometime and then cut pieces of your wish.
Step 10: Garnish it with charoli, grated almonds and pistachio.
Note: 1) You can also pour hot ghee on mohanthal to create a thick layer of ghee. 2) If the sugar syrup thickens you can add milk to it.
